Thoughts While Creating

Had it been that long?

I returned to the homestead I grew up in after 50 years. The first thing I did was go into each building and throw some logs on the fireplace. The billowing smoke completing the scene I remembered some years ago.

It was exactly as I had left it. The cabin where we lived was still full of old furniture built by my father, the barn, although empty of the sounds of all the animals, still had that barn smell, the hardware store, that was created by my grandfather, had some of the original stock items, and the school room, that was used for a while to educate the local kids, had some of the books we studied from on the shelves.

It was a time of reminiscence and remembrance and although the years have passed for a moment it was as though my family was gathered one more time. I had planned on just a short visit to the homestead yet after experiencing these feelings and emotions I have decided to stay a bit longer.
